Sublimely Sun Valley

The start of my last year of high school has given me a very bitter-sweet feeling. Feeling happy and excited for my time at the public school system to come to an end. And end of stupid teenage drama, and cliques. But on the other side, I feel an end to late Sunday night dinners, watching the stars with Gavbo, Bentley and Danielle days, babysitting Sadie and Ty, shopping with Mom, and so much more. And with all of these feeling boiling up inside, it was the perfect time for me to take a break from the stressing, and take a vacation with the people I love most in the entire world.

My Grammy and Grampy have been coming up to Sun Valley, Idaho every year for the past 23 years! Because Grammy works at the Sinclair Oil company, who owns Sun Valley, she gets a killer discount. But although she comes every year, I personally have not been in about 14 years. And with her retiring soon, it is most definitely time for me to come up once
again.

My family and I drove up two days ago. Although many may not like driving in the car for an extended amount of time, I find that I love it! Many a time I would usually spend a road trip watching movies, but this time I spiced things up a bit and listened to music instead. For those who know me, you know that I am an avid fan of a certain Billy Joel. Avid enough to have over 360 of his songs on my iPod! So I spent over three hours of my trip listening to Billy Joel, and did not even get through half of his music on my iPod!
But of course that was only the drive up, the fun had not even begun. We drove in and checked into the Lodge. Once we got settled in we met up with my Grammy and Grampy, Aunt Becca, Uncle Ryan, and my three cousins, Ayden, Bentley, and baby Ireland. We then went on a little walk to check things out, and see how well our memories suited us. We went down to where all the resort shops and restaurants were. Which is where we stopped to get food at a pizza place, Bald Mountain pizza. We originally sat outside, but of course as luck would have it, it started to rain. So we were moved inside. My poor family, bless their hearts, are just naturally quite loud. These two ladies sat by us when we were sitting outside, and then when we moved inside, they sat next to us again. Heaven knows that when my family is around you can't have a quiet meal, haha. But as the food went, it was wonderful!

My family is very food oriented. When we get together it is always around a dinner table. I guess that we all just love our food. Not to mention that we are all pretty dang good cooks! Once you have my Grandma's red velvet cake, you will never think of cake the same way again.
The next day we all went swimming in one of the Sun Valley pools. The pool was really neat, because I had never been in one like it. It was round, and it got deeper as you went into the middle of the pool. We were really lucky because we were mostly the only ones in the pool. Gavin and I had swimming contests, and I think you can guess who won...me. Most of the time I played with Bentley. We played a game where she was a half dragon-half elephant, and I was a heffalump, like the ones in Winnie the Pooh. (I love my Bentley. This summer she and I would have a "Bentley & Danielle Day" once a week, and we would go get a snow cone, or go to target and try on hats, or go to the park.)

That night we made a spaghetti dinner at my Grandparent's condo. Of course once again, the classic Walker/Jackson/Christensen persona of being at the dinner table. After a yummy dinner, we played games. We played a game called Pass the Popcorn, which essentially is a movie trivia game, which is totally my kind of game seeing as I am a complete movie junkie. We had a crazy fun time, and laughed our brains out.
The third day we went ice skating at Sun Valley's outside rink. This, I think, was my favorite part of the vacation. My whole family out on the ice, except Grammy and Grampy, plus the baby. I miraculously made it the whole time without falling down. The whole time while we skating, there was this olympic skater practicing in the middle of the rink. I probably could have just watched him the whole time, it was amazing. Poor Bentley was scared on the ice, so we all took turns taking her around the rink. The baby, Ireland, wanted to get on the ice with us so badly. We just wanted to find her teeny little skates, but I'm pretty certain they don't make them that small haha.

Throughout the whole trip, I pretty much rode my bike everywhere. I got my bike for my birthday last year, it is this cute yellow beach cruiser with pink flowers decorating the sides. But it was put together wrong, and my mom and I finally took it in to get it fixed a few weeks ago. Ever since I got it fixed I have been riding it like crazy.

Later that night my parents, Gavin, and my Grammy and Grampy and I went to the city, Ketchum, just below Sun Valley. It was there that I had the best mexican food of my life at the La Cabanita restaurant. It was just this dive of a restaurant, but the dive restaurants always have the best food!
Now I have to write about Ireland, the funniest baby I have ever known. She is as my Aunt Becca would say, one and some years old. She loves to say "Hi" to random people and wave at them with both of her hands. And every animal is a puppy. She loves puppys, and we are even beginning to think that she herself is in fact a puppy. She loves to walk around with things hanging out of her mouth, and she also loves to get stuck in corners. Ireland is absolutely adorable and I simply do not know what we ever did without her.

The next day we packed up our cars, and went to breakfast at a restaurant called Gretchens. Here is where I had the best hot chocolate of my life. It came in a little teapot with whipped cream on the top with chocolate syrup drizzled on top. And Bentley got a bagel that was literally the size of her head. The breakfast was delicious.
Once done with breakfast, our family parted ways, and said goodbye to our weekend in paradise.
